Role Summary

Brocade is a world leader in storage networking and is leading the way in developing open, software- driven infrastructure for corporate networks. You will be part of the Software Networking Business Unit, helping to advance Brocade's forward-thinking software-defined networking initiatives.

The Cambridge office specializes in developing Brocade's Virtual Application Delivery Controller (vADC) products. The software enables customers to create, manage and deliver exceptional online services, primarily in virtual and cloud environments. Implementing a vADC solution allows organizations to visualize and manipulate the flow of traffic to their web-enabled applications, ensuring a consistently robust web infrastructure.

The role involves working in one of a number of small development teams to develop high quality software. Each team is responsible for developing and maintaining specific areas of the vADC products, collaborating with other teams and contributing to the tools and infrastructure that help us build, test and release our products on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

The design, development, testing, debugging and documentation of software.

Maintain technical excellence in software design and practice.

Regularly peer-review code written by other team members to improve code quality and further personal development.

Investigate and respond to customer support escalations, including the development and issuing of patches to resolve issues.

Conduct research and create designs and prototypes for new features and products.

Other activities as required by the business.

Experience & Qualifications

Degree in Computer Science or similar discipline.

Experience of designing, developing, testing, debugging, and documenting software.

1-3 years' experience of commercial software development in C or C++, or equivalent contribution to open source projects.

Desirable

Experience in the use of version control systems, especially Git.

Experience working in an agile development team.

Experience with developing software in a UNIX environment.

Experience with writing and maintaining automated software tests.

Experience with Python, Perl or similar scripting languages.

A good understanding of networking and common network protocols.

Experience of writing network applications using protocols such as HTTP, TCP and UDP.

Understanding of security principles and how they affect network applications.

Understanding and experience in the use of virtualization technologies and containers.

Personal Attributes

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

An attitude of quality, diligence and thoroughness is essential.
